Cloud Security Assessment

We Find What’s Misconfigured Before Attackers Do

Cloud environments move fast, and security misconfigurations are the most common cause of cloud breaches. Our consultants hold certifications across AWS, Azure, and GCP, and they review your infrastructure for IAM misconfigurations, overly permissive policies, exposed storage, and insecure network architecture.

Our Cloud Security Expertise

Every assessment is hands-on. We don’t just run CIS benchmarks and call it a day – we manually review your cloud architecture, test cross-account trust relationships, and look for the misconfigurations that automated tools overlook.

What We Assess

Our assessments go beyond compliance checklists. We test for real-world attack paths across your cloud environment:

  • Identity & Access Management (IAM): We review IAM policies for overly permissive permissions, wildcard actions, unused roles, cross-account trust misconfigurations, and privilege escalation paths. We identify which identities can reach your crown jewels and how.

  • Storage & Data Exposure: We check S3 buckets, Azure Blob Storage, and GCS buckets for public access, misconfigured ACLs, missing encryption, and overly broad sharing policies. We also test for server-side encryption key management weaknesses.

  • Network Security: We review VPC/VNet configurations, security groups, NACLs, firewall rules, and peering connections. We test for overly permissive ingress/egress rules, exposed management ports, and missing network segmentation between environments.

  • Compute & Container Security: We examine EC2/VM instance configurations, container orchestration (EKS, AKS, GKE) settings, serverless function permissions, and instance metadata service (IMDS) exposure – a common vector for credential theft via SSRF attacks.

  • Logging, Monitoring & Detection: We verify that CloudTrail, Azure Monitor, or GCP Cloud Audit Logs are properly configured, that log integrity is protected, and that critical security events would actually trigger alerts.

  • Secrets & Key Management: We test for hardcoded credentials in Lambda functions, environment variables, and infrastructure-as-code templates. We review KMS key policies and rotation practices.

Provider-Specific Testing

Each cloud provider has unique attack surfaces. Our consultants are certified across all three major platforms and test provider-specific risks:

  • AWS: IAM policy simulation, STS assume-role chain analysis, S3 bucket policy evaluation, Lambda function permission review, CloudFormation template security, and cross-account access testing.

  • Azure: Azure AD role assignments, Managed Identity configurations, Key Vault access policies, NSG rule analysis, Azure Policy compliance, and hybrid identity (AADConnect) security.

  • GCP: Service account key management, IAM condition bindings, VPC Service Controls, Organisation Policy constraints, and Workload Identity Federation configurations.

What We Typically Find

Representative findings from recent cloud assessments (anonymised):

  • IAM Privilege Escalation Chain: A developer IAM role had iam:PassRole and lambda:CreateFunction permissions. We demonstrated how an attacker with these credentials could create a Lambda function with an admin role attached, effectively escalating to full account administrator – a path invisible to standard CIS benchmark scans.

  • IMDS Credential Theft via SSRF: A web application running on EC2 was vulnerable to SSRF. By querying the Instance Metadata Service (IMDSv1), we extracted the instance’s IAM role credentials and used them to access an S3 bucket containing database backups with customer PII.

  • Cross-Account Trust Exploitation: An overly permissive trust policy on an IAM role allowed any principal from a partner AWS account to assume it – not just the intended service account. We demonstrated how a compromised developer account in the partner organisation could access production databases in the client’s account.

Our Assessment Methodology

We combine automated tooling (ScoutSuite, Prowler, custom scripts) with deep manual review. Automated tools find configuration drift and known misconfigurations. Manual review finds the complex attack chains – privilege escalation paths, trust relationship abuse, and architectural weaknesses that require human analysis to identify and exploit.

Why Choose FORTBRIDGE?

  • Expert Team: Our security consultants have 10-20 years of experience and hold security certifications from AWS, Azure, and GCP.

  • Attack-Path Focused: We don’t just list misconfigurations – we demonstrate realistic attack chains that show how an attacker would combine multiple weaknesses to reach your critical assets.

  • Strategic Recommendations: We deliver prioritised recommendations with both quick wins and long-term architectural improvements to enhance your cloud security posture.
