Web Application Penetration Testing

We Test Your Web Apps Like an Attacker Would

Your web application is the front door to your business. We go beyond automated scanning to manually test for OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities, business logic flaws, authentication bypasses, and privilege escalation chains. Every test is led by OSCP, OSEP, and OSWE-certified consultants with 10-20 years of hands-on offensive experience.

Why FORTBRIDGE?

We work directly with your developers, not just your security team. Every finding comes with clear proof-of-concept evidence and remediation guidance. We then jump on a call with your engineers to walk through the fixes and verify they work. That’s the FORTBRIDGE difference – we don’t just hand you a PDF and disappear.

Our Testing Methodology

Our approach is rooted in the OWASP Web Security Testing Guide (WSTG) and PTES, combined with proprietary techniques refined over hundreds of engagements. We use Burp Suite Professional as our primary testing platform alongside custom scripts and targeted tooling.

  • Reconnaissance & Attack Surface Mapping: We map every endpoint, parameter, and authentication flow. We identify hidden functionality, undocumented API endpoints, forgotten admin panels, and exposed development artefacts that automated crawlers miss.

  • Authentication & Session Testing: We test login flows, password reset mechanisms, MFA implementations, session handling, and token generation. We look for session fixation, JWT misconfigurations (algorithm confusion, weak signing keys, missing expiry), insecure cookie attributes, and race conditions in authentication logic.

  • Authorization & Access Control: We systematically test every role and permission boundary – horizontal privilege escalation (accessing other users’ data), vertical privilege escalation (user-to-admin), and IDOR vulnerabilities across all object types including files, records, and API resources.

  • Injection & Input Handling: Beyond standard SQL injection and XSS, we test for Server-Side Template Injection (SSTI), Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF), XML External Entity (XXE) injection, OS command injection, LDAP injection, HTTP request smuggling, and insecure deserialisation.

  • Business Logic Testing: This is where manual testing matters most. We analyse application workflows for logic flaws – bypassing payment flows, manipulating multi-step processes, exploiting race conditions, and abusing state management. Automated scanners cannot find these.

Why Manual Testing Matters

Automated scanners are useful for catching low-hanging fruit – missing security headers, known CVEs, and simple reflected XSS. But they cannot understand your application’s business logic, test complex multi-step workflows, or chain vulnerabilities together into realistic attack scenarios. Our consultants spend the majority of testing time on manual analysis – finding the critical vulnerabilities that scanners miss.

What We Typically Find

These are representative findings from recent engagements (anonymised):

  • Authentication Bypass via Race Condition: A fintech application’s password reset flow was vulnerable to a race condition that allowed an attacker to reset any user’s password by sending concurrent requests, bypassing the OTP verification step entirely.

  • Chained IDOR to Full Account Takeover: An e-commerce platform’s user profile API endpoint had an IDOR vulnerability that, when chained with a predictable password reset token, allowed complete takeover of any customer account – including stored payment details.

  • SSTI to Remote Code Execution: A SaaS application’s template rendering engine was vulnerable to Server-Side Template Injection, allowing us to execute arbitrary commands on the underlying server from an authenticated low-privilege user context.

Benefits of Our Web Application Penetration Testing Service

  • Full Attack Surface Coverage: We test authentication, authorisation, injection, business logic, and session management – not just the OWASP Top 10 checklist.

  • Leak Detection: Easily identify information that your systems may be unintentionally leaking.

  • Compliance: Efficiently and effectively meet compliance requirements.

  • Vulnerability Mitigation: Address critical vulnerabilities before attackers can exploit them.

  • Focus on Core Business: Allow your developers to focus on innovation and business goals while we handle security concerns.
